A few years ago, my creative partner and I got lunch at a deli. He asked me to pay and sent me his half on Venmo. I didn’t think anything of it until we worked on a Pride initiative for Mastercard. He shared that as a transgender man, he hadn’t changed his legal name on his credit card. And when his sandwich was ready, the deli would call out his birth name, causing undue anxiety and humiliation—and potentially putting him in danger. Full origin story here.

Turns out this was a huge hole in the credit card industry. We pitched the True Name card idea and three years later, more and more banks are coming onboard. Many hands have touched it since and I’m super crazy proud of this work.
